Caernarfon is a town and port in Gwynedd, Wales, known for its long association with Royalty, dating back to Tudor days. It is situated on the banks of the Menai Strait facing Anglesey and is near to Bangor, Brynsiencyn, Caeathro and Llanedwen and is one of around a hundred towns and villages in Gwynedd in which Go2 has cottages or holidays lets available. The nearest main cities are Bangor (population 15,280), Newport (population 116,143), and Swansea (which has a population of 169,880 according to the 2001 Census).
Famous for its dominant and impressive castle, Caernarfon is also a major tourist centre with a thriving harbour and marina, plenty of shops and restaurants and much to interest any visitor.

Gwynedd takes its name from the old Kingdom of Gwynedd and is an area of north Wales which encompasses most of Snowdonia and the Lyyn Peninsula. Although one of the largest local government areas in the country it is also quite sparsely populated. A large number of welsh-speaking people live in the area, and it is home to the university city of Bangor as well as the famous 'royal' town of Caernarfon.
