Betws-Y-Coed is a village in the Conwy valley in Gwynedd, Wales. It is situated in Snowdonia National Park near to Llanrwst and Dolwyddelan and is one of nigh on a hundred towns and villages in Gwynedd in which Go2 has cottages or holidays lets available. The nearest main cities are Bangor (population 15,280), Swansea (population 169,880), and Newport (which has a population of 116,143 according to the 2001 Census).
The village gets its name from the Welsh meaning "Prayer house in the wood" and is popular with visitors to the area because of the river, the buildings, scenery and history of this beautiful place. It is also ideally located as a base for exploring north wales, Snowdonia and the coastline nearby. Gwynedd takes its name from the old Kingdom of Gwynedd and is an area of north Wales which encompasses most of Snowdonia and the Lyyn Peninsula. Although one of the largest local government areas in the country it is also quite sparsely populated. A large number of welsh-speaking people live in the area, and it is home to the university city of Bangor as well as the famous 'royal' town of Caernarfon.
