Barmouth is a coastal town in Gwynedd, Wales. It is situated on the estuary of the River Mawddach, facing Cardigan Bay, and is near to Fairbourne and Arthog and is one of around a hundred towns or villages in Gwynedd in which Go2 has cottages or holidays lets available. The nearest main cities are Bangor (population 15,280), Swansea (population 169,880), and Newport (which has a population of 116,143 according to the 2001 Census). Gwynedd takes its name from the old Kingdom of Gwynedd and is an area of north Wales which encompasses most of Snowdonia and the Lyyn Peninsula. Although one of the largest local government areas in the country it is also quite sparsely populated. A large number of welsh-speaking people live in the area, and it is home to the university city of Bangor as well as the famous 'royal' town of Caernarfon.
