This Norfolk seaside town is situated about 20 miles east of Norwich, at the mouth of the River Yare. With a wide, sandy beach known as the “Golden Mile” and two piers, it has been a favourite with holidaymakers since around 1760. Wellington Pier hosts an entertainment centre including a ten-pin bowling alley overlooking the beach. On Britannia Pier there is a theatre presenting popular acts during the summer. The Golden Mile is packed with things to do, with 12 amusement arcades, adventure golf, a putting green, a model village, retro skate, “Yesterday’s World”, the Sea Life Centre and the Pleasure Beach and Gardens.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the bustling town centre. The marketplace is one of the largest in England, and guided tours of the town run throughout the summer. One of Great Yarmouth’s notable features is its historic rows (narrow streets), and it is surrounded by one of the most complete town walls in the country. There are many buildings of historical interest, including what is now the Norfolk Nelson Museum, Row 111, the Elizabethan House, Old Merchants House, Tollhouse Museum, Greyfriars Cloisters and St. Nicholas Church.
Further afield there is more to explore, including the Norfolk Broads - a network of rivers, lakes and manmade waterways - and lots of pretty Norfolk villages. Follow the links to find holiday cottages and lets available in this area on Go2, or view the surrounding area on the map below.
Taking a break in one of our holiday cottages in Norfolk is the ideal way to explore this atmospheric and historic county. The coastline is the major attraction here, with miles of sandy beaches stretching from historic King’s Lynn all the way round to Great Yarmouth, famous for its Golden Mile and multitude of seaside attractions and entertainments. Cromer (noted for its crabs and pier), Sheringham and Hunstanton are also firm family favourites. If you prefer something quieter during your stay in one of our holiday cottages in Norfolk, try the North Norfolk Coast, a designated Area of Natural Beauty and a haven for walkers and birdwatchers. Venture inland and you’ll discover a gently rolling landscape dotted with flint cottages and ancient churches.
The county town of Norwich is one of England’s best-preserved cities and is a joy to wander around. Don’t miss a visit to the magnificent cathedral towering above the surrounding medieval streets. East of the city lie the Norfolk Broads, a vast expanse of interconnected lakes and waterways which has long been a firm favourite with sailors. Hire a boat for a day to see them at their best. Less well-known are the mysterious Brecks, a wilderness area of heaths and forests and one of the least-populated parts of the country.
