Sidmouth is an attractive coastal town in East Devon, on the estuary of the River Syd. Part of the Jurassic coastline it has cliffs at each end of its promenade, notable for their distinctive colour. Sidmouth has a population of about 15,000 but is popular with tourists who are looking for a quite, but varied holiday location.
Sidmouth has a good range of shops and restaurants, is easily accessible by road and bus, had good leisure and sporting facilities and a beach, which whilst mainly pebbled, is also sandy at lower tide. Follow the links to find holiday cottages and lets available in this area on Go2, or view the surrounding area on the map below.

seaside towns and villages, North Devon makes for the perfect cottage holiday getaway.
Discover the beauties of this tranquil landscape for yourself with one of Go2's holiday lets or

cycling. This is Lorna Doone country, where farmers have battled the elements for
centuries. The coastline here is truly spectacular and is a real highlight. Walk the Coastal Path, and you’ll be treated to stunning views of high cliffs dropping straight to the sea, or to small coves far below. Beach lovers will also enjoy a holiday in North Devon. Resorts like
Woolacombe and Saunton offer long stretches of sandy beach that are ideal for surfing
and sailboarding. Clovelly is a real beauty spot, and very picturesque, while Appledore
is a picture-perfect fishing village. Ilfracombe is a more traditional seaside resort, but is not overly-commercialised, while the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth have an atmosphere all their own. Don’t miss the wonderful water-powered funicular railway here.

are the Georgian charms of Sidmouth, or Salcombe, long a favourite with sailors. Inland,
you can get away from it all in the rugged splendours of Dartmoor National Park
or just enjoy the rolling hills and rural delights of the South Devon countryside.

Travelling to or from Ireland? Don't forget the ferry! Not only does it give you
the freedom of taking your own car but it provides a superb experience of travelling
by sea and exploring the coastline. With convenient routes between Holyhead and Dublin, or Pembroke and Rosslare, we recommend
Irish Ferries for great, low-cost, transport. They are the leading Irish ferry company and provide both an excellent service, and excellent prices.

Sidmouth is a very pleasant seaside resort on the south coast of Devon. What strikes me the most is that it is a very well-maintained, clean and tidy town. An example of this is seen at the very well kept Connaught Gardens, not far from the town centre. The town itself is of average size, with a good range of shops (including many independent, specialist shops, such as gift shops), accommodation and restaurants. There is an esplanade at the sea front, and then a pebble beach. On both the east and west sides of the beach, there are towering red-stone cliffs which give for very impressive views. It is true to say that Sidmouth appeals more to the elderly generation, and is not a brash, loud resort at all. Therefore, if you are younger and looking for a more lively resort, this is clearly not for you. But the fact that Sidmouth is not a “Newquay” is exactly why I like the town ! Overall then, the visitor will not be disappointed. A final note is that Sidmouth also acts as a good base if you stayed for a week or so – as it is not far from other nearby attractive villages like Beer, attractions such as Bicton Gardens, and also not far from towns such as Honiton and Exmouth – and even Exeter is not that far away.
