The popular north Cornwall seaside resort of Bude sits at the mouth of the River Neet. Facing the Atlantic Ocean it has two large, sandy, beaches (Summerleaze and Crooklets) which provide for good surfing in the right conditions, as do a number of other beaches nearby, including Widemouth Bay and Sandymouth Bay.
The town has a number of shops, tennis courts, pitch and put and other amusements, and there are a number of points of interest including Bude Canal which runs into the harbour area, and once used to connect Bude with Launceston. The railway station which brought visitors from London on the Atlantic Coast Express is now closed, as with the branch line to the town, so transport facilities today are restricted to car and bus access, but the A39 ‘Atlantic Highway’ makes for easy access to and from other parts of Cornwall.
As well as being a great location itself for a family holiday, Bude is also a good base for exploring the north Cornwall coast, and for paying visits to other great Cornish locations such as Boscastle, Tintagel, and Padstow. With good accommodation available both in the town and in the surrounding villages visitors are sure to find somewhere ideal to stay, especially with the range of choice of cottages and holiday lets in Bude which are provided for search and comparison at Go2. Follow the links to find holiday cottages and lets available in this area on Go2, or view the surrounding area on the map below.
North Cornwall
Wilder and more rugged than the south of the county, North Cornwall is a land of
tall headlands, sandy beaches and empty moorland – yours to explore from one of
our holiday cottages in North Cornwall. The busy resort of Newquay is a major attraction,
with its glorious beaches and fantastic conditions for surfers. Nearby Perranporth
also boasts some fantastic beaches, perfect for sun-lovers. You’ll find many more
lovely beaches, like those at Bude for example, waiting for you on one of our North
Cornwall cottage holidays. This part of Cornwall has become a bit of a mecca for
food lovers too. Rick Stein has put Padstow on the map and more chefs, including
Jamie Oliver, are joining him, attracted by the quality of the ingredients available
locally. Then there is St. Ives, long a haunt of artists drawn here by the wonderful
light and inspiring scenery. A cottage holiday in North Cornwall puts you in touch
with history from ancient celtic times to the days of the smugglers. Tintagel Castle,
rumoured to be the birthplace of King Arthur, sits high on a cliff and still has
a strange air of mystery about it.
South Cornwall
Wonderful scenery, a mild climate, sparkling blue seas and charming seaside villages
make South Cornwall a firm favourite for cottage holidays whatever the season. And
we have a fabulous choice of holiday cottages in South Cornwall from which to make
the most of this lovely part of the country. The Cornish Riviera takes in some of
South Cornwall’s most popular resorts and many of our holiday cottages in South
Cornwall are located nearby. Picturesque Fowey is a haven for sailors, while the
Roseland Peninsula is a noted beauty spot. Mevagissey, St. Mawes and St. Just are
all well worth a visit. Not to be missed is the Eden Project, a fascinating recreation
of different biospheres, featuring a wide variety of exotic plantlife. You should
also make time for a trip to atmospheric St. Michael’s Mount and on to Land’s End,
the most westerly point in England. The county town of Truro has a lovely cathedral
and some excellent shopping opportunities, while Penzance is a bustling resort,
famed for its warm weather and sub-tropical plants. And do make sure you sample
the pasties, saffron cake and clotted cream – all local delicacies, – during your
cottage holiday.

Travelling to or from Ireland? Don't forget the ferry! Not only does it give you
the freedom of taking your own car but it provides a superb experience of travelling
by sea and exploring the coastline. With convenient routes between Holyhead and Dublin, or Pembroke and Rosslare, we recommend
Irish Ferries for great, low-cost, transport. They are the leading Irish ferry company and provide both an excellent service, and excellent prices.

User Guides
Bude has a really good beach and has some rock pools that are perfect to go rock pooling in. On that beautiful beach, it also has an outdoor swimming pool in which the children will love to play (even though it is a bit cold because it is made out of sea water). Sorry for any inconvenience but there are no changing rooms that I know of. There is a river canal which runs from inland down to the sea in Bude. You can walk down this lovely, majestic, beautiful, stretch of water and you can also feed the ducks that swim down the canal river. Benjamin - Age 8, Devon 12 April 2012
